Renesas expands 32-bit MCUs to include high-temperature types for motor-control

“Through the IoT, home appliances and industrial machinery are attaining greater functionality based on network connectivity and user interface enhancements and effective use of the limited interior space as well as the higher temperature environments are becoming major issues,” claimed Renesas industrial automation v-p Akira Denda.
- RX24T covers 11 models with pin counts ranging from 64 to 100 with memory from 128 to 512kbyte,
- RX24U covers six models with pin counts ranging from 100 to 144 and memory from 256 to 512kbyte.
The chips work up to 80MHz and have peripheral functions for motor control such as timers, an A/D converter, and analogue circuits for controlling two brush-less dc motors per chip. They have a floating point unit, and can be used for sensorless vector control.
Software can be developed using the RX24T and RX24U CPU cards, combined with the 24V Motor Control Evaluation Kit.
I have struggled to find a real difference between U and T types, except U types have six channels of serial comms and Ts have three – clarification has been requested from Renesas.
Update: Renesas replies:
“The answer to your question is:
RX24T does have programmable gain amplifier – 4 channels (1 channel + 3 channels ) assigned to the ADC.
RX24U does have differential programmable gain amplifier – 4 channels (1 channel for 1 shunt control + 3 channels for 3 shunt control) assigned to the ADC”
